What is Kintaro Cells®?
«KINTARO Cells®» are multipotent bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells that have the ability to differentiate into cells of various types. Unlike autologous cells derived from adipose tissue, which are taken from the patients to be transplanted back into themselves, we use allogeneic stem cells obtained from young, healthy donors in their 20s.
Autologous cells are still widely used in Japan; however, globally, the mainstream use of cell therapy has already shifted to allogeneic cells. Currently, as the only provider in Japan to introduce international ATMP standards, we are expanding our research, development, and manufacturing under the brand «KINTARO Cells®», where our products are cultured using advanced culture technology and patented manufacturing methods.

Only approximately 1 in 100,000 nucleated cells in bone marrow fluid is present as mesenchymal stem cells, making them extremely rare. Multipotent stem cells «KINTARO Cells®» are collected and extracted using advanced and uniquely proprietary biotechnology.

about
Why «KINTARO Cells®»?
The highest number of bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem cells is found in the human body at birth. Thereafter, the number decreases with age: from 100% at birth to approximately 10% at age 20, 4% during a person’s 30s, 2.5% during a person’s 50s, and about 0.5% during a person’s 80s.

«KINTARO Cells®» are multipotent stem cells obtained and cultured from bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem cells of young, healthy donors aged 20–25. They supplement the age-related decline of stem cells in the body and, through their powerful multipotent properties, have the ability to regenerate various cells and tissues throughout the body.

As stem cells differentiate into specialized tissue cells, characteristic surface markers (glycoproteins and proteins) are expressed. Bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem cells possess a common cellular “prototype” shared across cell types, which enables their ability to differentiate into multiple kinds of cells. Therefore, «KINTARO Cells®», cultured from young and healthy bone marrow–derived mesenchymal stem cells, present no risk of immune rejection.

The culture medium used complies with cGMP standards under the supervision of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), ensuring a high level of safety. In addition, we have introduced the world’s most advanced standards for cell culture, manufacturing, and quality control (ATMP), positioning «KINTARO Cells®» among the limited high-quality products available worldwide.
process
«KINTARO Cells®»
culture process
Allogeneic human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells are cultivated using our patented culturing technology. This process requires advanced biotechnology skills. Only those cultured cells that meet our own strict quality standards become “«KINTARO Cells®».
[1]
Registered donors are carefully selected from young, healthy volunteers in their twenties. Strict screening tests are conducted.
[2]
A 20 ml bone marrow sample is collected from the donor.
[3]
Mesenchymal stem cells are separated from the bone marrow and cultivated in cell culture for around two weeks.
[4]
High-grade quality control is conducted on the cultured stem cells, and they are approved for use as «KINTARO Cells®» only if they meet world-class standards for cell culture, manufacturing, and quality control.
[5]
«KINTARO Cells®» are maintained under strict management and transportation conditions without freezing, and their high quality is preserved under refrigerated storage.
[6]
«KINTARO Cells®» must be used within 48 hours after culturing and are cultured and maintained with a high survival rate (as measured by a university research institution). This ensures that they can be delivered anywhere globally. Patients experience live mesenchymal stem cells during treatment.
